The Great Eastern Wine Tour

From AUD $185.00
  • Duration: 9 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Hobart, Tasmania

Explore some of Tasmania's most beautiful vineyard settings with Taste Tasmania's Great Eastern Wine Tour.  The East Coast of Tasmania is a picturesque 2hr drive from Hobart, and is home to many award-winning, cool-climate Winemakers who are keen to meet you and share their stories and wines.

The East Coast is home to not only passionate and talented Winemakers but also some of Tasmania's most beautiful scenery as we weave our way along the Great Eastern Drive.

The spectacular winding roads of the Great Eastern Drive will set the benchmark for our Great Eastern Wine Tour and around each new corner lies a truly incredible winery or producer.
Many would say it is impossible to visit them all in a day and that is true. In fact there are several smaller vineyards that don't offer tastings or cellar door sales at all,so it literally is impossible to visit them all.

With Taste Tasmania Tours however you will visit more than anyone else and receive a far more personalised and VIP experience.

The tour starts in Hobart at 9am and by late morning you'll be sitting by the waters edge pairing freshly shucked oysters with a glass of deliciously delicate sparkling wine.  Oysters and bubbles for starters?! Can this get any better? You bet!

Following our bubbles and bivalves breakfast we will visit Milton Vineyard for a tasting of their stunning wines and then head to Spring Vale Vineyard for a tasting of their wines. Before our gourmet lunch, focusing on local seasonal produce, we'll prepare the palette with a tasting of Spring Vale's Splendid Gin and Summer Cup Gin.

After lunch the road trip continues as we visit Gala Estate or Devils Corner for a wine tasting and then explore the awe-inspiring views of the Freycinet Peninsula and Freycinet National Park (home to Wineglass Bay). A few more bends down the road we arrive at Freycinet Vineyard where you'll be blown away by a tasting of their wines, some of which are quite unusual varieties, and of course you can enjoy their Sauignon Blanc, recently awarded best Sav Blanc in Tasmania!

By the time we farewell winemakers Claudio and Lindy it is time to turn the van around and make our way back down the coast and you won't believe how incredibly different the scenery seems from the other direction as the evening light causes the reflections and shadows to dance and shift.

Our last but certainly not least stop is visiting our dear friends Glenn and Sandy at Craigie Knowe Vineyard.

We'll sit down at Craigie Knowe (outside in the bean bags and sunshine or inside their gorgeous old barn if the weather is unfavourable) and hear directly from the owners about the fascinating history of the vineyard while we sample their delicious wines including their amazing Cabernet Sauvignon (Yum!).

For dessert we combine two of the best things o nthe planet; wine and chocolate! You choose a Craigie Knowe wine and let Sandy and Glenn serve up a selection of chocolates that have been purposely made to pair with your chosen wine.
The drive back to Hobart then commences and we all share a few laughs and highlights along the way, reminiscing of an amazing day that will be remembered by all for a lifetime.
